a seat at the table

“There’s a reason we do the community meal, it’s ‘cos food has a way of bringing people together. You just need to grab a seat.”

A Seat at The Table is a community theatre project where Mustard Stories Arts CIC worked with community hubs around County Durham to bring their stories to life.

The script was co-written by Elijah Young and the community cast. The first reading of this play was performed at The Big Club in Newton Acycliffe in Spring 2024. In the Autumn, this was adapted into an episodic radio play now available on Spotify

A full scale production of this play is in development and set to tour around County Durham.

Commissioned by No More Nowt, produced by Eilis McGowan, directed by Jonluke Mckie, sound design by Elliot Mann, performed by Abigail Lawson, Jacqueline Phillips, Kylie Ann Ford, PACT House, Stanley Young People’s Club and Junction7

This is a perfect example of community theatre created with and for the community it works alongside. The use of professional creative team working with people who may not have experienced theatre created a piece of work that was meaningful and is a testament to the times we find ourselves living in.”
