“I alternate between a few looks that I’ve pieced together from local chazzas and ebay finds, this is a personal favourite. I paint my nails baby pink, carry around a fake 80’s mic and give a cheeky little step-touch, when I tell you the two old gays in the back booth go wild.”

Our Karen is not only a reflection and tribute to the troubled musician Karen Carpenter, but looks at how female icons are a guiding star in queer and disabled communities.

This new play uniquely co-written by 3 writers showcases North Eastern talents, David Tuffnell (Miss Crispy 1988), Elijah Young (The Cold Buffet) and Liam Twizell, with creative collaborators including Creative Mentor, Nathaniel J Hall (First Time) and Director, Jonluke McKie (Fat Chance).

Developed as part of the Live Theatre Bursary Award 2020 and Elevator Festival, Our Karen is created with support from ARC Stockton and public funding from Arts Council England.
