indulgence

She smacked me that night. My mother, not the tart in the kitchen. And in doing so she taught me a lesson, you’ll always be punished for indulgence.

INDULGENCE is a comedy and one woman play inspired by the stories we’ve been told about the Archaic Greek poet and literal OG lesbian, Sappho, brought into England in the regency era.

Marianne is reckless. Despite it being her third season in the marriage mart with no luck, she’s more interested underground parties in mens clothing and brief affairs with female tutors. When she gets a job writing supposedly harmless poetry for a local gazette, she’s present with an opportunity and her purpose becomes more apparent. Soon Marianne will see, is she as untouchable as she thinks?

Elijah recieved the Peggy Ramsay grant to write this play.
